Aarogya Setu app is now open source...Gov. offering 4 Lac rupees for bug detection

 
Aarogya Setu app is designed and developed by Gov. Of India to fight against Global pandemic COVID-19. This app is available in 12 languages on Android and iOS platform. This app has 4.6 rating on Google play store and there are more than 144 million active app users according to Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology GOI Secretary Ajay Prakash Sawhney.

  
On Tuesday 26 May 2020, a big update has come regarding the Aarogya Setu app. The Government said that they are opening source code of Aarogya Setu app to make app more secure and convenient, privacy and security experts were demanding for this from long time.

The source code of Aarogya Setu Android app is available on GitHub- https://github.com/nic-delhi/AarogyaSetu_Android

Long time as from app published, security and privacy experts were asking about data privacy and data security of people, so the government declared the app as Open Source.


Opening the source code of this app allows security experts and developers to review and detect bugs in app. According to Amitabh Kant (chief executive of NITI Aayog), No other government product anywhere in the world has been open sourced except Aarogya Setu app.

With this government also launched Bug bounty programme for developers to detect bugs and earn cash prizes as mentioned below-
1. For detection of app bugs- Rs.300000/-

2. For Suggestions and improvements in source code- Rs.100000/-

This bug bounty programme is open from 27 May 2020 to 26 June 2020.

Aarogya Setu app advised around 900000 people to get quarantine themselves or get tested for COVID-19 and around 24% of them found positive according to government.
