Nisarga Cyclone : An Overview

At around 1.30 PM on Wednesday 3 June 2020 Nisarga Cyclone made landfall on coastal area near Alibaug in Maharashtra at speed around 100-110 km/hr.

Nisarga was second largest Cyclone after Amphan Cyclone to hit India in span of two weeks. Eastern Coastal region was affected by Amphan last week where Western Coastal region is affected by Nisarga Cyclone. High damage was observed in Ratnagiri, Raigad and Alibaug districts of Maharashtra. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed 43 teams in Maharashtra and Gujarat.

It was expected that the cyclone will struck Harihareshwar village, but its landfall was near coastal town of Murud-Janjira with wind speed about 120 Km/hr.
Heavy loss of public and private properties was observed in affected areas.

The estimated direction of Cyclone was Mumbai-Thane-Palghar-Gujarat, but at 7 PM, cyclone changed its direction to Northern Maharashtra area via Pune and it's direction was- Nashik-Dhule-Nandurbar-Madhyapradesh State.

After Cyclone hit, heavy rainfall was reported in Dapoli,Mandangad,Ghuhagar,Chiplun, Ratnagiri and Rajapur area.

Maharashtra Government declared funds to the affected people-
●For minor damage - 10,300 rupees (including 1800/- for clothes, 2000/- for utensils, 6500/- for other damages)
●For Major Damage - 95000 rupees.
●Government is paying for roof sheets.
●Grains reallocation (5 Kg Rice, 1 Kg Dal, 1 Ltr. Kerosene)
●Assistance to the physically disabled from the Social Welfare Department.
